13 Tips for visiting The 13th Gate Haunted House!

Experiencing the 13th Gate can be a thrilling and memorable experience, but it's essential to approach it with a sense of fun and adventure. Here are 13 tips to help you make the most of your visit to our event:

1. Come on a slower night

Most people visit the haunted house on a Saturday night closer to Halloween which makes the wait time to get in extremely long. We recommend coming earlier in the season or on a Thursday or Sunday night when the wait times are significantly shorter. Less people entering means that the actors have more time to do what they do best: scare the bejesus out of you. Slower nights equal a scarier show.

2. Embrace the Atmosphere

Immerse yourself in the experience by embracing the eerie ambiance and spooky setting. Allow yourself to get lost in the moment and suspend your disbelief.

3. Let faster groups pass you

Everyone travels through a haunted house at different speeds. If you see that a faster group comes up behind you, be courteous and let them pass you by. That way everyone can experience the haunted house as it was meant to be, and the group size doesn’t get too large.

4. Respect the Actors

The actors and performers in haunted attractions work hard to create a scary experience. Respect their efforts by not touching or harassing them. Follow any rules or guidelines provided by the attraction. No actor at the 13th Gate will ever touch or harm you.

5. Go with Friends

Attending a haunted attraction with friends can enhance the fun and excitement. Sharing the experience with others can make it more enjoyable and less intimidating. For the scariest experience, go with a group of 6 or less.

6. Stay Calm

While it's natural to feel frightened, remember that the scares are all part of the show. Try to stay calm and remind yourself that it's all in good fun. Please for your safety, no running or shoving.

7. Be Mindful of Your Health

Haunted attractions can be physically demanding, with lots of walking and sometimes tight spaces. Make sure you're in good health and able to handle the physical aspects of the experience.

8. Dress Appropriately and Secure your personal items

Wear comfortable clothing and well-fitting, closed-toe shoes. Make sure they are tied well when you enter or you might just jump right out of them. Believe it or not, every year we collect hundreds of shoes from customers that left them behind. In addition to shoes, make sure you securely store any personal items such as phones, keys, and jewelry. If it's expensive or something you hold dear, it may be best to leave it at home.

9. Don't Ruin the Surprise

Avoid sharing spoilers or details about the attraction with others who haven't experienced it yet. Let them enjoy the surprises for themselves.

10. Pick the bravest in your group to lead

The haunted house depends on guests continuing to walk non-stop through the haunted house to prevent backups and operate optimally. As you walk through the haunt, remember to keep moving forward at all times and never stop or go backwards.

11. Don’t drink too much before you enter

Many people feel the need to have a few shots of “liquid courage” before they enter. Just remember that drinking too much can ruin the experience for you and your friends and you could even be removed from the attraction if you are obviously drunk.

12. Use the restroom before you enter

Trust us on this one.

13. Have an Escape Plan

If at any point you feel overwhelmed or too scared, we have stationary security throughout the haunted house that will escort you out. Hundreds of customers a year leave early because they find it too scary. Don't hesitate to ask to leave if you need to. There’s always next year to try again!

Remember that the primary goal of a haunted attraction is to provide a fun and spooky experience. By following these tips and maintaining a sense of adventure, you can make the most of your visit and create lasting memories.
